Omnipotence, Pt. 2

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” Genesis 50:20

Scripture Focus: Acts 2:22-28

The story that gives shape to all others in the Bible is the great story of redemption worked out by the Father through the Son and in the Holy Spirit. It’s the story of God triumphing over sin and death, through the very death of His own precious Son, Jesus. It would be merely a dream or a fairytale if it were not for God’s omnipotence. His omnipotence (which we see in glimpses in nature, in storms, etc.) is the assurance “that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

In the middle of Peter’s Acts 2 Pentecost sermon, we see that even with the most heinous sin ever committed—the crucifixion of the Son of God—the Lord’s purpose of salvation is accomplished. We see this is no accident, no unfortunate turn in Jesus’ ministry where He got Himself into trouble with the wrong people. It was all “according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God” (v. 23), our all-powerful King. The Lord is sovereign for our salvation and ultimate good.

Insight: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” (Genesis 50:20)
