Omnipresence

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” Psalm 139:7-8

Scripture Focus: 1 Kings 8:12-27

Another attribute of God’s that we do not share is omnipresence. I’ve known parents of big families who’ve wished for this one! Similar to eternity, omnipresence does not just mean that God is everywhere, but that space (like time) is a part of creation, and therefore He not only created it but also transcends it. “The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!” (1 Kings 8:27)

If we haven’t received the free forgiveness of Jesus, omnipresence is bad news for us. Then we are like outlaws on the run, twisting and turning in our sleep, knowing the law will catch up with us eventually.

However, in Jesus, omnipresence is good news because it means we cannot escape His loving presence. God cannot be contained, but He has chosen to condescend and dwell with His people in His saving and redeeming ways. He’s chosen a place to dwell because we need a place to dwell. God is everywhere and yet is with His people.

Insight: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

It is our hopes and prayers that these devotions will bring people to Jesus as Savior and have a deeper meaningful relationship with the Lord.
