Seeing as God Sees

"The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned."   1 Corinthians 2:14

Scripture Focus: 1 Corinthians 2

We may never have the fantastic visions Ezekiel had. For that we can be grateful, as much of it was unpleasant. He saw the glory of God, but he was also shown the sin and wickedness of his own people. He even saw terrible corruption in the temple. Do we see sin in the church today? Of course we do. And we must be careful in our judgment of it since we are also sinners with our own faults and biases.

We may be tempted to hold others to a higher standard than that to which we hold ourselves. Struggling saints need the same grace that you and I need. While we should not turn a blind eye to sin, especially in the household of God, we have to remember our limited vision-we simply cannot see things from God's perspective. We can be sure, though, that the Spirit is always seeing from God's perspective. As the Holy Spirit guides us in understanding God's Word, we have a standard by which to evaluate what we encounter.

We also can be sure that no eye has seen the things God has prepared for us with Him in heaven one day.

Insight: "The Scriptures are to be interpreted under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, which guidance is to be humbly and earnestly sought." (Charles Hodge, 1871)
