Trepidation or Hope
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Insight: Exodus 3 & 4:1-14
Answering a direct calling from God can fill us with fear and trepidation. We can empathize with Moses’ nervous excuses as he attempts to prove to God he is not the right man for the job. Another fearful situation we find ourselves in is not receiving a direct call from God. It can be hard to discern one’s calling when entering adulthood and other major turning points in our lives. Moses tended his father-in-law’s herds until he was nearly 80 years old before God appeared to him.
In 1986 we went home to Missouri after leaving the Army. We then went to California, I did not feel I had received a direct call from the Lord, and I had no idea what lay ahead. But God was faithful that year and protected us, as we need up returning to Missouri. Where we learned many things from the Lord and I received my first Ordination to preach. Looking back, I see how God worked not only through me but in spite of me in many situations, shaping me into who I am today.
Think back to pivotal times when God lovingly pursued you and used your Exodus experiences to bring you to a land flowing with milk and honey.
